BURGHOUND 2005

2003 Gevrey-Chambertin : Some wood spice frames relatively fresh red fruit and nearth aromas followed by rich, sweet and supple middele weight flavors that other pretty good lenth. A delicious, forward, easy to like effort. (86-88) 2007+

2003 Morey-St Denis: This too is nicely fresh and bright, especially for the vintage wth almost entirely red pinot fruit aromas on the nose that lead to agreeably precise medium full flavours and a firm, ever-so-slightly edgy finish. There is a bit less wood in evidence here though the finish displays a touch of warmth. Stylistically I prefer this to the Gevrey but qualitatively, it's a choise. (86-88)2009+

2003 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Crû : The nose is less open  and expressive  today with quite firm punchy full-bodied flavors that deliver good lift and cut but the finish is rather dusty and dry. This clearly needs a few more months in barrel to come together. (86-89) 2009+

2003 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Crû lavaut St Jacques: Subtle wood spice frames the freshest nose thus far with impressively exuberant red fruit, minerals and a crushed herb component that give way to sappy, rich and very concentrated full-bodied flavours that aloso exhibit lovely minerality on the long, slightly toasty finish. This is quite lovely and because of the very good mid-palate concentration, there is every chance that the wood will be successfully integrated. (88-91) 2009+

2003 Chapelle-Chambertin: A very generously wooded nose frames very ripe, almost jammy pinot fruit aromas that merge into rich, full sweet and very sappy flavours that offer impressive intensity and excellent delpth. Wood however is not subtle but with this kind of power and concentration, it may be absorbed. (88-91) 2009+

2003 Latricières-Chambertin: This is much more subtly oaked with less wood and less toast though the delicious, punchy, mineral-infused but dry flavours are less balanced and while there is good depth here, it's not benefit of the doubt. (88-91) 2009+

2003 Bonnes-Mares: Noticeable but not overwhelming oak frames sweet and bright red and black fruit notes and it continues onto the fresh, powerful and quite rich full-bodied flavors that are also fimly structured but  in keeping with the depth and concentration. This is long but fairly toasty on backend. (88-92) 2011+

2003 Clos de Vougeot: This possesses the freshest aromas of any wine here today with notably elegant black fruit and earth aromas leading to classically styled and structured, robust and muscular flavours that display plenty of young Clos de Vougeot austerity. Curiously for the vintage, the flavours are sweet but almost under ripe and this finishes with a rustic and powerful backend. A wine that is clearly for the patient as it will require the better part of a decade for this to unwind and resolve its structure. (88-91) 2013+

2003 Chambertin Clos de Bèze : A generous and expressive nose that is opulently oaked combine with  fresh and bright spicy red fruit notes and while there is good punch here, this is not necessarily a big wine and certainly not as big as the Clos de Vougeot; It is much finer however with more sophisticated tannins , better overall balance and depth though I suspect it will never completely lose the heavy wood that it's presently carrying. In short, stylish but a bit woody for my taste. (89-92) 2013+

2003 Musigny: If the Clos de Vougeot is freshest of these ‘03s, then the Musigny is most aromatically complex with really gorgeous black fruit, earth, herbs, game and more subtle wood notes complementing rich, full, sweet and exotically ripe medium full flavours that are impressively pure and exceptionally well-balanced. It would appear that Philippe Drouhin has finally his stride with this cru. (91-93) 2013+
